I am interested to see what other early Intel chips others have with the FF-TT-SS markings. I have 4 with these markings and the Klamath below has it on the board and the chip.

FF-TT-SS Markings
After production chips are removed from the wafer for sort, test and packaging; they are tested for speed (bin split) and are sold according to what speed processor they are. For a new processor the ES chips are packaged and tested and split into three groups for lab testing and debug. The three groups are FF, TT, and SS which stands for fast-typical and slow. They are all unlocked allowing test engineers to test under a variety of different conditions to see what can be done to get the best performance and higher bin splits at the top performance level. The information is used to improve the next run or stepping to improve yields and deliver a higher number of chips from each wafer that are in the upper bin splits.

It was compiled from 4 different Intel employees, 2 of which were Intel PAL managers for almost 2 decades. They kept referncing it and I finally asked them about it. I took info from all of them and combined it.

great!
If they were there in the 80ies, do they have old information about markings, packagings and production details about the old DIP packages like 8080, 4040, 8008 and 4004?

Unfortuntely the 8080's were before there time. They did work there but not on these chips. There first chip projects were 80186. But neither of them had any of there early chips left. Except one of them did give me a 486 Internal Sample Only Smile This is what happened....

Apparently Intel contacted many of the labs back in 1999 when they were getting ready to open the Intel Museum. The reason was they didnt have very many chips for the museum itself. Although items were donated many of which were 186/286 chips many of the "packrats" at Intel kept the good stuff to themselves. I am still trying to reach of these so called "packrats".

Thanks Smile

Actually I get most of these chips other places. The two people I know dont work at Intel anymore and I already bought all of there chips Smile
But they sometimes find old stuff in there basement.
