| If your board is 266 FBS max, then you need to use a 266 cpu on it |

| Yes, I think you can but that CPU will work at max 266 MHz FSB (it is a FSB underclock), you can then try to raise multiplier (if it is unlocked or unlockable) over the standard and make it work at his own frequency or higher but with lower performances of RAM circuits |

| just a quick question for sparepartman , did it work , if the 333 will run in a socket a 266mhz board it will give my old board a boost without tearing it apart..............thanks |

It depends on the specific processor and motherboard.
At minimum, you should be able to run the processor at 266 MHz FSB, as icemanauto and jamesjameson indicate. This means that the processor frequency will be lower than rated (266/333)= 0.80 times as fast.
If the motherboard supports it, you can try raising the FSB up to 333 MHz. If the CPU is unlocked, you can try raising the multiplier to equal the performance of the 333 MHz FSB equivalent. |
