here in Taiwan
there are 2 fee when import something from abroad
Custom: it depends on what the item is and where it from
such as for a motorcycle from Jap , it is possible 60%
fortunately, the ICs,CPUS are custom-free in Taiwan
Sale tax:every above 3000NT need to pay 5% sale tax
so 50GPB (2900 NT) is ok for me |

It's the package to susl45 that is delayed, and apparently DHL phoned him to say it is at customs That is Shandong Province (I don't know if it is different in different provinces).
Unfortunately, the £50 I had already told DHL before being asked to say less is $100. If the sales tax is 5% in that area, then I am not sure why susl45 thinks it is a problem, he has saved far more than that by successfully offering low prices, and the packing materials I did not charge for cost me more than the tax will cost him! _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

For all items coming into the UK:
We have very low limits, and we also have two types off charges, in addition to the clearance fee.
From: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/
1. When will I have to pay Customs duty and import VAT on goods purchased on the Internet, from outside the European Union?
Customs duty and import VAT are not payable:
* when the value of the goods is less than €22 (£18 )
* on gifts with a value of € 45(£36 )
Goods over these limits may be subject to Customs duty and VAT. However, Customs duty is waived if the amount of duty payable is less than €10 (£7).*
Duty is a seprate fee, I had one of those a while back, I had to pay import VAT ( at 17.5% ) then a duty, I cant remember how much, about £10, and on that parcel the Clearance fee was 8.00 GBP. It was an expensive parcel, I remember paying a lot.
I dont bitch too much, as over the years I had quite a few parcels come in without being charged any fees - even when the value was declared correctly. I do bitch when my parcel is sat on the shelf for nearly 2 weeks because they are too busy or dont have enough staff or are running some lame parcel inspection. |

Yes, I met problem at the custom which is loated at SD prov, and maybe DHL applies to custom always here. The DHL contacted me that they had a problem when applying to custom, as the value applied (they said 50eur,but I think it is £50 as Debs said) exceeds the value for personal items ( the maximum value is 35 USD), and they said in this case custom may always open the parcel and check the the number of the chips and re-evaluate the value of them, and if they think it is not for personal usage, they will treat it as the commercial item and may ask for the invoice from the sender and other complicated things. So I am worried that they do not think that the chips are for colletion, and if so, the thing would be very complicated to deal with. They also said for the normal case, the custom duty and VAT and other tax would be about 30% (I do not know whether it is for personal case or commercial one), and I could need pay more than 20-30 euros.I think most of us do not want to pay so much additional fees.
I think if some of us want to sell or trade chips in future, it is helpful to know the limit value of personal items, and I also guess write the name of item "chips for collection" or "Obsolete Computer Chips" (as Debs did) would be helpful as well, and it could let the custom know they are not for commercial use. |
