Anyone interested in buying a whole bunch of rare chips? If any of you are tracking my auctions you will see that I have quite a few extremely rare NOS chips. I buy them from one of many chip brokers. If you aren't familiar with doing this I would be more than happy to link you up with several good people that can find you most anything.
You can buy chips that are selling on Ebay for hundreds of dollars and only pay $20.00 to $30.00 for them but like all things there is a catch...
To be able to get them so cheap you may have to buy 20, 50 maybe 100 of them but in doing this you can a lot of times buy all of a certain rare chip and then you have a monopoly on that particular chip (until someone finds 10,000 of them in his closet).
If 20 people did this and all got a different chip and then traded with one another imagine the money you would save and the collection you would have.
I got a pretty nice collection in a very short time doing this and have traded with most of you here. The problem is I have ran out of trading partners as I only collect Intel although most of you have many more chips than me.
At any rate if you have a few dollars you want to invest on some computer chips, and if you buy something I don't already have, I may have a C4004 with your name on it

What do I need to do/have to get the C4004 with "wepwawet" on it???
Maybe I understand less english than I thought but I am not sure whar the offer is.
Do you want to trade Intel chips you don't have for C4004s?
Do you have a list of chips you like?
I could offer a perfect golden board with seven 3301 (sic White/grey, one plastic/gold).
Cheers, Michael |

These sites are a great start:
www.aattech.com (POC is Eric)
www.2kprocurement.com (POC is Jason)
www.usbid.com (POC is Kim)
Generally speaking the really common high value chips are hard to find through these people (C4040, C4004, C8080) although they can get some of these as well but if you are into all the Intel chips from the 1970s as I am, "which also sell/trade quite well" then you can still find quite a few at good prices as I didn't have enough money to buy them all
but I tried

If the chips are Intel then I might make the trade. Can you send me a photo?

I don't understand. If you can buy 20, 40, 50 or a 100 of a rare type of chip from the links you've listed above, why are they considered rare?
The thought of even 2 people doing this and like you said, purchase a large quantity at a time makes me lose interest in collecting. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Even though I have no favor in it, there should only be one person doing this ( gmanbc ). Only room for one at the tip of the ice berg. Adding more will make collecting chips slip, if you know what I mean.
BTW, would you ever consider these people to sell FAKE chips? In order to sell 100's, or 1000's a day to collectors that buy them, they need a good stock of chips. ( Assembly line?) And I bet you wouldn't be able to tell a good forgery from original. |

chipcollector...
There's lot of chips that are extremely common.
You can buy "refurbished" P8080A's at www.jamco.com for $4.49 unless
you want 100 in which case they are $3.59 ea.
When a chip becomes obsolete there's usually thousands of them still sitting in warehouses and most of these chips are still waiting for someone to buy them.
Only the rarest and earliest chips are worth a lot of money.
It's actually a good thing that most chips are common because it means that new collectors can get into the hobby without having to spend a fortune. |

The big thing is to get the chips out of the warehouse and in to the hands of the collectors. There are several people on Ebay doing this right now (collectachip, excess90 are two new examples). But they are just sellers and won't do any trading with you no matter how much you badger them I think the more collectors that have the chips the better collecting will be. Kind of like baseball cards when I was a kid and I traded with all my buddies. But if they don't have any cards I want then I am stuck with a bunch of great cards unless I want to give them away and I don't

There is a thread dedicated to fake chips and someone promising to show us a fake C4004 right here on the Forum. I don't think you could fake a working chip and that is what you would have to do as the chip brokers guarantee the chips to function and I sell more that to collectors I also sell to people restoring old computers like tekhplover from France.
Any rate this thread is generating a lot of interest and several of you want a C4040. I can tell you that they cost me a mint and I only have a couple. Even if you find a chip that I don't have, I can't do a one for one exchange You are going to have to give up probably 5 or 6 chips that I don't have for one of those, unless of course you have an MC8080A/B Please see my collection page and if you have any of the chips that I show in black (not white) on that page let me know so we can trade |

About usbid, I asked for a quote for C8008-1. They propose $60 per 25 or $20 per 400.
That's interesting |
Don't do it! Those are the refurbished C8008-1s that I had some of. They are ugly!!! The reason that you can get them cheaper when you buy more is the chip brokers has to pay a transfer fee and shipping and of course make a certain percentage off the sell. Most everything I have got from them has been really good but you don't want those C8008-1s!
Sorry about the misquote!

Wow. $20 for 400 pieces or $20 each? If it's $20 for 400 I'll be better off to stop collecting, instead of making a fool out of myself
Why are people spending $40-100 on c8008's and c8008-1's when you can go to usbid and buy 400 for half the price of one on ebay?
Refurbished or not it's still a c8008-1. |
