Hello and thank you in advance for your time,

PC - HP a1100y
OS - XP Pro sp2
MB - Asus Grafito
Installed CPU - Celeron D 336 2.8ghz
Attempted upgrade - Pentium IIII 650 3.4ghz

Did this one by the book and very carefully but after installing new cpu I get nothing but the heatsink fan running.
I ordered the Pentium from StarMicro.com with an extended warranty but thought I'd troubleshoot before I threw a fit.
I tried everything I could think of including resetting the Cmos but it just wont boot. I popped the Celeron D back in and it fired right back up.
The product specs page from HP says that this MB will take the following:
Intel Pentium IIII
Intel w/HT technology
Celeron D

I simply wanted to speed things up a tad (already added 2gigs ram, switched both HDDs to SATA, etc.) am I missing something here?

Again,
Thank you

Do you have latest BIOS version installed?

Thank you for the reply,

I flashed that one back last year. Bios confirms that it is current version.

Any ideas?

Just a quick update:

The problem was StarMicro.com - they sell refurbished, old, used, faulty and even dirty parts as "new".

I will learn from this burn.

The Pentium 4 650 I have just installed works fine.

Thank you so much for all of your help and time.

Still an awesome forum.
