A few comments about the poll:
- 1st option: Implementing it will require changes to the forum software.
- 2nd option: Access to the "Group buy" forum can be given by request.
- 3rd option: Currently the "Group Buy" forum is open only for registered users. Guests cannot see it, and Google / other search engines cannot crawl it.

For previous discussion about locking access to forums please see:

I like the idea of people being granted permission to join it.

Invite people or let people ask and the existing community decides/allows.

Pure technical reasons - length of membership, post counts don't hit the need.

If you think I make bad things in the group buy section, kick me out of there no matter how long I am here ot what I talk (postcounts).

I like John's "permission" idea, so I voted "other".

I think the "It should be open only to collectors who actively participated in group buys" choice should summarize John's idea, which is also my opinion. It leads to a candidature section/topic, where the collector has to present himself and his collection. To be sure, we can apply a quarantine period (an eBay seller could easily show us pictures of chips he will sell on eBay as his collection Confused ).

As it's important to not scare or discourage new members with a lot of rules, I'd be interesting to listen opinions of all generations of members. How do the last registered members feel about these restrictions?

I think this sounds like a good idea. Where it should be open only to collectors who actively participated in group buys but have to be granted permission to join it.

I do think there will be some bumps along this new road. We'll have one or two people who dont like it or parts of it may be cumbersome at first but I think for the sake of the community it is something that should be done. So even if its not perfect at first we will work through it.
And regarding the workload, its not like we get new active members ever day.

The newest active member participating group buys is kosmokrator, joined 03 Jul 2008, 121 newer members where only that richrecycler has a mentionable postcount but he is a seller.
Next one is smithy from Australia, number 192, joined 27 Apr 2008.
And I remember schoenweide, a more or less both, seller and collector, who had some pretty nice stuff for us:-)
There are far more than 500 members with no post, they are just watching.

What does this tell us?
I guess in this situation nothing.
Therefor I still think a decision based on membership and postcount is useless.
There have human beings to be involved.

I think it will keep out the riff raff, Wepwawet mentions richrecycler, whom i have publicly said to be questionable, after the auction i followed of his, and I still ask if any one here actually bought any chips from him? If so let me know so i will stop thinking he is bogus.

There is another guy Int16JB
who made a post in the current group buy of the 4002 chips, who wants a full tray of them, Why ? has he contributed to the forum or community in any way, shape or form yet. I dont think so since he just registered to get in on it with us. At least thats what i see since hes only got 2 posts to his credit.

I have been in other forums where you need to be given permission to view certain topics and it always seemed good to me, it never scared off the people who were wanting to be involved more , if anything it made them contribute a little more to see what the buzz was about.

off topic response:

Int16JB asked for 25 chips and a (empty) tray - while a tray fits 100 pieces

I have no idea if he is a seller or new collector, we will see. I am waiting for his payment, if he does I guess he is serious what I do not doubt.

Thanks for the clarification Wep, I am not trying to bash anyone, just question the way things are going if he pays and all is good, thats great. But i still feel you should have to do some time before you get to have some of the perks thats all.
