Seems everybody is posting polls these days... So why not me ?
In fact it's a two fold poll : should we make a auction-type or fixed price-type sale ? and should it take place on the forum or on a separate (but more user friendly than a forum) ?
Cpuswe had a very nice idea, that we could set up a dedicated auction server (such as phpauction). The access would be given only to members, and it will be easier for everybody (sellers and buyers) than trying to do the same on a forum which is not really done for this...
Otherwise, we can do like for debs' sale. But it'll be less practical (for pictures, following the price of a given item, updating it, and the is no proxy bidding, reserve price, anti snipping rules, etc...)
I put ebay solution in the list, but I doubt someone vote for this
It is also possible to make a fixed price sale, and the fastest member get what he wants. It's not fair for people not in European TZ, and it's really hard to give a fair price for so many items, and I'm not sure to be able to do this without making mistakes... In fact, I'm sure I can't
Finally, I put "others", in case there is another better solution nobody would have thought about...

I vote for "Other".
I think the simplest and easist way is to bid via PM or EMAIL.
Every one sending the wanted list with their maxim offer. When all mails with offer finished. then G0B will show every offer in the public. and NO MORE OFFER then.
This way need the least work to do for G0B and for everyone. No hassle, No snipping, All was one time bidding. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

I opted for the first option - private auction on a dedicated site. That way, anyone who participates can see what a chip sells for (and maybe if a buyer wants to be anonymous, that could be included in the software options?), but only those who are invited or who the moderator(s) allows could participate. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

The first option needs a lot of work to do. Setting up a new auction website. everyone here register there. and G0B has to put more than 500 auction on! terrible! _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

Vote by fixed price offered at CPU-World site, because of simplicity and easy management (no other website/software needed), problem is how to correctly get correct value of CPUs, you, experts assigning a price or seller requests??

Simplest for who? Not the seller...
Offers withdrawn, people changing offers here and there. And just to keep track of it all via PM and mail. That is much work.
Whats the difference if you leave a bid on an auction or offer in PM if rules are the same? _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

what i said is based on no withdrwan offers and no changing offers.
Everyone should send its offer only after adequate consideration. Once offer sent, then please no more change. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

Not sure. cpuswe has already set up such a system.
Whatever the solution, I plan to post 1 hi res picture of each item, so it won't change much.

I think it's up to the seller to decide what method he wants to use to sell the chips. If a really big sale is coming, similar to Debs' sale, then I can create a separate "for sale" forum where bidding is allowed - again, similar to what we did for Debs. The seller will be given moderator rights for that forum, and he will set the rules for the forum.

Sure. I'll have the last word on this. But I would like to find a solution that please as many people as possible amongst the members. That's why I ask.

It's only an opinion, based on my experience of selling my large collection, but my thoughts (specifically prompted by your reply) are:
Option 1: ) A lot of work to list everything separately, but not much more than creating individual pictures to list in groups. The biggest job would be to create such a site, but I note that g0b says | Quote: | | cpuswe has already set up such a system. |
Option 2: ) A lot of owrk dealing with individual PMs from people who choose to not read the rules. Many buyers on my sales ignored my pleas to keep all bids public, and some bids got changed after they had been placed by way of editing original posts. This makes it far harder, as it becomes impossible to knnow what order some bids were placed in. This is hard to get round for the person running a sale.
Option 3: ) Prices have to take into account the extra few % that eBay take for each listing. Overall this could get expensive, especially when we consider that unsold items will usually incur a listing fee. Also, it would not keep the collection here, which I believe was the intention.
Option 4: ) As stated by a few of you, this would enable the buyer with most time and money to just sit here waiting for items to be listed, and get them before anyone else sees them. Hardly fair given what I understand the intention behind this purchase/sale to be
Option 5 No comment. _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.

Hi guys.
I voted the first solution (even if I think I'' never sell my own collection ).
I like auctions (instead of fixed price), because they give me the emotions that come from competition. And I do not like the formula "Fixed price: the first who reads the first can choose".
My proposal:
I'm quite able in php, and few years ago I made a website for the management of the auction of our FantaFootball, on a similar ebay style.
With Debs-style selling we have the problem of updating bids; if you agree and if you decide for the auction way, I can create a "light" application for managing bids (and logins/summaries) for the members of forum.
I think I need 15-20 days for making up the application and test it.
We just need to exactly plan and know all rules.
The heavyest work will be on images, for Gob (we are talking about 600 chips). But we can help him in cutting, resizing and renaming. |
