I have not heard something so stupid in some time.

yeah.. on the face of it is does sound stupid.. but as consumers we expect things to be a certain way, and Europe like to "protect" us.

Other commodities have to meet minimum expectations, so while the intention of the legislators was GOOD.. the implementation , AS USUAL, was not.. fat overpaid politicians trying to justify their importance between large lunches and long afternoons with their secretaries between the hotel bedsheets.

I think it was because some radical feminist lesbian hurt herself when using a mis-shapen carrot in some method other than that for which it was prescribed, and the poor farmer needed to be protected against her claim against him....

What a stupid law!
Why, in a world where millions are starving, would some "bureaucrats" conspire to make fruit and veggies be acceptable only if they were "Standardized"? (Sounds like something out of George Orwell!Idea)

The "non-perfect" or "too-small" food ends up trashed and small produce sellers get their food seized or destroyed by special state "inspecters".
Most intelligent people know that the size or shape of a grown food item doesn't affect quality.

What's next..."Designer Humans"?

The more we mess with the way nature works, the more messed up we get. Embarassed

I guess someone finally woke these idiots up! Evil or Very Mad Mad
I wish they could be tarred and feathered and run out of town!!! LOL Laughing

When I see mishappen fruit at farmer's markets, it's usually a sign of a locally grown and, therefore, fresher item. I'll try to buy more now!

Damn those Gov't. Bureaucrats!
We're in this world recession now because they had "better" things to busy themselves with, like this!!!

You know, don't get mad about this. Times like these are when some creative renaming can sometimes help to circumvent the bureaucracy.

small tomato = tomatillo
large potato = russett
small corn = maize
small cucumber = gherkin
large marshmallow = staypuft

You get the idea.

It's funny, yesterday I watched TV news and they said that mis-shaped fruits and vegetables are going to be authorized again, Europe cancelling its (stupid) grading laws.
