I've used a hot air blower on the heatsink, which melts the glue/transfer compound, then using a small screwriver you should be able to lift the heatsink off with no damage to the chip at all. I just did a 486 on the weekend this way and it worked perfectly _________________ My former Intel collection:

If they're EPOXIED on, forget it!
I had to use a baby sledge hammer and cold chisel on some and its hard not to damage or nick the chip.
If there is Epoxy left on the chip, scraping carefully with a sharp wood-chisel or single edged Razor blade can remove it with hard work! |
