I have a Winfast K7S 741GXMG motherboard with Amd socket A. would like to know what is the highest cpu upgrade i can use. it came with a duron 1.8 which i fried recently and it was replaced with a sempron 1.6. the technition said the 1.6 was all he had on hand to get it back up and running. apparently there are others to use.

assuming this info correct, you have fsb 333 (sempron fsb), so max cpu should be athlon XP 3000+ 333 Mhz FSB

If it's 400, than max xpu is Athlon XP 3200+

A 3200+ is very expensive as it is the last upgrade possible, there is little difference with 3000+@ 333, or a 2800+ (not sure on this one though).

Look around for some charts, try "tom's hardware guide", they have a lot of articles to suit your needs, plus handy charts on the right column Smile

Ebay could be the right place.

There are some catches with Athlon Xp and Sempron, as later Semprons are just Athlon Xp rebranded. Look for that too is the above mentioned site (tom's).

There is some stuff to know, but you'll be happy eventually Wink
