We know that you have a Q6600 but we don't know what the rest of your system specs are.
If you could please post what other components you have such as
Mainboard (Mfg and model#)
RAM (Mfg, amount and rated speed)
Cooling (CPU and system fans)
PSU (Mfg and rated power output)
Hard drive(s) (Mfg, Capacity and Interfaces/Ports)
GPU (Mfg and model #)
Then some of these fine people may be able to help you a little more.
That way we will all know if we're talking about Apples or Oranges. |

Generally speaking most brand PCs are not overclockable at all.
Especially HP PCs for home use have inadequate CPU cooling facilities.
I wouldn't recommend you to overclock the CPU in your case.

Because your video card is a bottleneck and not the CPU.
That's why overclocking of the CPU won't bring you any benefits.
You should buy a new video card instead - if your PSU (power supply unit) is powerful enough to support it. |

Just as Qwerty stated above, your vid card is holding you back.
If you wish to keep your current setup, upgrade your video card. Do some Googling and look at power consumption and connectors needed on perspective cards and then compare to the Power Supply Unit you have now. That way you will know if an upgrade is needed in that area also.
Because... if you upgrade a card and don't have enough power or the proper power connectors to run it properly, you will end up with more problems than you have now. |

And of course your graphics card plays an important role in games. Having a very fast CPU and a modest graphic card will probably be slower with CoD then having a modest CPU and a very fast graphics card . _________________ thandor.net - hardware

What I ment by upgrade is purchasing a different video card.
I'm an Nvidia fan so I would suggest looking at the 8800 or 9800 series. If you like ATI take a look at the 36XX or 38XX series.
I have a feeling if you were to purchase any card higher up in the food chain than the models I just listed, a PSU upgrade would be mandatory.
As far as not being able to play COD4....try lowering the resolution of your monitor, not an ideal fix but it might help until you figure out what you want to do. |
