Because I am still competitive, and CUDA would enable me to improve my stats on distributed networking projects like SETI and others with GPU apps. Not all 8600 are worth buying for more than pennies, but some are (although faster is better for the faster systems).

I worked more than 10 months with CUDA - I wrote my thesis about it. That's why I'm asking Smile

Currently this technology is not suited for real applications because of numerous limitations of GPU architecture. A nice demo is not a real application!
Only the number crunching applications like BOINC (SETI and other number crunchers) could fully utilize the GPU power - if you write a good code of course.

If you are really going to work with CUDA I could provide you more technical details.
A hint - watch out for the NVIDIA compiler bugs - they are really nasty! You should always compare the PTX-assembler listings with the C code you wrote. Wink

I've got a Voodoo 1 and some ATI cards, and this week at work I desoldered the chips from a couple o gf8600 cards. Also have a few GPUs from N64, Gamecube and the like.

Are you saying you have enough GT8600 to be able to strip them down for parts and scrap? I am pretty sure you will find buyers (myself included soon!) who will want budget, entry-level CUDA enabled cards!

The cards were at my workplace, they were rejected for having no DVI output (ie faulty) so don't worry Debs...
