My processor is an AMD Turion ML-34 mounted in a compaq presario V2000. I found some cpu software online which allows the cpu to be undervolted to 0.700v minimum and 1.40v maximum. This settings gave a stable result WITHOUT THE STANDARD FAN as follows:
Multiplier Speed VID Max temperature at 100% load
4.0x 800MHz 0.750v 79 degrees celsius
8.0x 1.6GHz 0.950v 104 degrees celsius (with 75% throttling after 20min)
9.0x 1.8GHz 1.050v 110 degrees celsius (with 25% throttling after 2min and shutdown)
I want to buy a newer cpu with these configurations. (The model could be ML-37 also)
This will allow me to use a laptop without a fan. It is important because a fan adds too much noise. |

110 degrees celsius???
You will destroy the CPU and your laptop! Even at 79°C the CPU will be dead in one or two weeks. And if the hot CPU is too near to the Li-ion battery you will have a nice explosion!
Generally spoken you can't operate a laptop without active cooling. If you want to have a passive cooled PC you should buy a desktop system. |

The laptop has thermal protection. I did it fine for 3 years at 79 degrees and the 100 degrees when gaming. |

| Most likely, it'll be best to underpower your fan... Most laptop heatsiniks are capable of sinking only a few watts heat output when air isnt being forced through them... Unless you can undervolt to the minimum and stay there, you'll need the fan sometimes. |

Yeah, use an external fan to blow some aiir when you boot up. When the cpu is idle, the temperature drops to 43 degrees. Even with a fan hardwired to the heatsink, the fan turns off automatically but the fan decreases an otherwise convection of aiir when it is present, so the cpu heats up and shutdown. |
