Hello again, OK so I know I just said I would let this one go unless I hit higher temps.

But because of my questions here I decided to look into my temps on my GeForce 9800GTX+ which were 53c Idle, 70c load. I know GPUs run hotter than CPUs but I didn't like that. So I ended up DLing Riva Tuner and found out the fan speed was set to 35% so I cranked it to 60% and now my GPU idles at 43c and 61c max under load.

So now I'm wondering if I can apply this technique to my Zalman 9500a CPU cooler. But I have no idea how to go about messing with my fan settings.

All I truly know is that the fan is running at 2755rpm, is this fast enough? Or does that sound like its set low like my GPU fan was ? How can I go about changing it?

is the Zalman a four wire fan?
if it is, in the bios of the mobo you can normally set the lowest speed setting.

its finding a balance between cooling and noise levels, but even at the highest speed it wont be as noisy as the fans on my nocona xeons.
They idle at 5500 RPM and run up to 8500 RPM when they need to Laughing

I'm not one of those people who is concerned with or bothered by cooling fan noise. One of the 1st things I do on a new system is disable the CPU fan speed control. This allows it to run wide open continuously.

As for my GPUs, I use Riva Tuner on the one computer with an ATI card, and EVGA Precision on the two that run nVidia cards.

BTW, all the blurbs I've read online lead you to believe, but never say, it only works on EVGA cards. I know for a fact it works on XFX branded GPUs, and why shouldn't it?? Cool

Here's a good one to control all fans

http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

And here's a good guide how to set it up

http://unitstep.net/blog/2007/11/02/using-speedfan-to-automatically-control-your-pcs-fan-speeds/

I dont use it myself because I adjust my fans manually when needed but I do know a few enthusiasts that swear by it.

Well thank you for the replies, it seems there isn't much I can do since my fan is a 3 pin, although I did remember that it came with a little sped control that plugs in between the fan and the mobo.

So I just got done giving that a try, and before hooking up the fan controller my speed was 2755rpm flat, never moved, after hooking up the fan controller when I crank it to 100% it just hits 2460rpm.

So needles to say I'll just leave the fan unhooked from the controller and just live with what I got!
