According to this information the processor A1400AMS3C is supported.
| Quote: | | I understand somewhat. I don't understand the effective bus speed though. That doesn't make sense to me. Any extra information would be helpful. Please reply soon. |
Older processors could send data only once during each bus cycle. Athlon processors can send data twice during each bus cycle. As a result, the Athlon processor with 133 MHz bus speed can send as much data as if it had 266 MHz bus speed, so, effectively, it has 266 FSB. Please note that it "can send", but it doesn't always does that. Your motherboard doesn't support DDR (double data rate) feature, so for your motherboard effective bus speed will be only 133 MHz.
Thanks!

| So in your opinion, It would be the right choice for me to spend $30? It makes enough sense to me that it works from what I read, and the 266 (effective) FSB is all that was confusing me. I'm just trying to make sure I do the right thing here before I go out and make a mistake. Thanks. |

Yes, upgrading or fixing your system for $30 is not bad. If you would want to upgrade to faster processor, that would cost you much more.

I ended up buying this one http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20XP%201600+%20-%20AX1600DMT3C.html
What do you think? It looks to me like I maxed out the processor possibilities for the board. I paid $42 total. I haven't put it in yet, because I have to get thermal transfer grease. Someone said I should get non conductive, instead of conductive. What is the difference betweent those? Is this processor right for my board, like the other one was? Thanks for all the help you are providing. |

The best thermal grease out there is Artic Silver 5. It contains 99% Silver- the grease alone brings down the temperatures 5-10F. All the others ( Like CompUSA Thermal grease and generic brands) say they have 99% silver, but really have less than 10% according to many studies and tests. Besides, It's only a few bucks and it's well worth it
I could send you my used bottle if you want |
