Did you get to test it to either find out what it really is or at least if it still works? That's a high start price if it is not known whether it works...

I tested mine yesterday for 24hrs, runs perfect. It runs at the slower speed than the 3.4ghz on the "main" markings.

Here's what I know:

Well, jay_rock. Did you ever test it to see if it is working? If you can confirm it as working you are more likely to get at least one bid, and to get a higher end price if more than one bid

I've got one of these too, exactly as pictured. Not sure what it originally came out of, it was a spare part at a PC shop I work at. Also never seen anything like it. Evidently it's not one-of-a-kind or a mistake, but it is awful weird. Almost seems to me like they slowed down a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 to meet cooling or power demands, as I highly doubt both that 3.4GHz CPUs are very stable, nor would an OEM (or Intel) want to buy/use faster CPUs clocked slower just to sell them (lower the price on a fast CPU and people will buy it and they'd still make more than the slower CPU).

Mine is marked as follows:

SL7JB COSTA RICA

Marked on the right side with the top of the text towards the edge of the chip:
3.00GHz/1M/800
SL8BM COSTA RICA

The CPU runs at 3GHz as configured (drop-in, power up), and supports hyper-threading.

Most curious to me is that the serial number (?) matches on both prints, with the added "T" on the second print.

It's all quite strange...

sometimes large quantities of a certain s-spec of a CPU are ordered by eg. the government, for their desktops or laptops. I've heard (well, read), that CPUs are remarked to meed the specific demand for a s-spec when they run out of the "normally" marked CPUs.

I just found another one of these odd-balls. Like some of the prior examples, mine is double-labeled SL7J8-SL8BY.

Hi, just to let you know they are not rare. I have two of them (SL8BM) and both of them work at the slower speed, 3GHz instead of 3,4. I have a fried who lost count of how many he had. Until now none were seen as 3,4GHz when installed. I don't know their history.
