Hi all,

I've opened, put under a microscope and a dslr an IDT RAM chip. Die was nice with many interesting features on it. Here is a picture :

I especially like the "Masters" tag in mirror around IDT logo and the US flag...

If you want, you can download the high res version here , but it's huge ! You have been warned ! Wink If you display it at 100% on a average screen, magnification of close ups will be around 1000x !

I think (anyone to confirm ?) that all theses odd drawings on the border of the dies are patterns for quality control and calibration of wafer position during manufacturing process.

What do you mean by "digital microscope" ?
I have a stereomicroscope with SLR camera mount, and a kind-of-weird-tweaked-micro/macro-objective-mount on a DSLR Smile

Yes all microscopes are optical, but i was wanting to know if all the magnification was optical or a component of the magnification was digital.
From the setup you have its 100% optical Very Happy

Right. 100% optical magnification. No cheating Smile

The highest resolution I reached so far exceeds 1000 lp/mm (that means a pixel is around half a micron width/height).... But that will not be be enough for dies after pentium... And it's more theorical than practical, because many problems arise at those magnification...

These are great pics!! Very cool. Funny to see all the things they put in those chips. Maybe '80s were much more hippie time than we think Smile
