|
|
I have an Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard that needs up-dating.
Spec's
Manuf.-Intel
Model-D845PEBT2...AAC12587-404
Chipset-intel-i845PE rev. BO
CPU-intel P4 Northwood 2.40GHZ
Family-F
Model-Stepping-7
Rev.-C1
Core speed-2400.0MHZ
Muitiplier-x 18.0
Bus speed-133.3
Rated FSB-533.4MHZ
BIOS-intel
Version-BT84520A.86A.0024.P10.0308081142
Date-08/08/2003
Memory-DDR
Max Bandwidth-PC2700 (166MHZ)
Size-1024(2x512)
Info taken from CPU-Z
I have been looking at replacing the cpu with a Hyper Threading 3.06/533 model-SL6PG cpu. I hope this will increase the speed in which some programs run, Nero 7 for example. Will this help?
Should I look at doubling the memory too? (2x1MB)
The Graphics card is an (don't laugh) ATI All-in Wonder Radeon 8500DV 64MB AGP 4X.
Are there any setting in the BIOS I can change to help speed up this old girl?
When I built this computer everything was top of the line. My how time flies. _________________ A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila. ~Mitch Ratcliffe |

Thanks for the help. I"ve been searching around the net and noticed the SL6PG's have different countries of origin. Some are marked China,(fakes?) Costa Rica, and Malaya. Where were these originally made? How do you know which are fakes? _________________ A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila. ~Mitch Ratcliffe |

Not worth faking them
Intel have been producing more and more of their chips in China, but seem to produce each chip in at least two different countries (so they dont get caught with their pants down if one plant stops producing)
Half of my newer intels (LGA775 socket) are made in China.
The SL6PG should be cheap... i'm picking up similar ones from puters being thrown out and i would expect it to be the same in the US.
Just dont spend to much on upgrading as replacing will have to be your next option
but the cpu would certainly help, if you only change that
also as the board doesnt run dual channel memory, to save money change only one stick of memory to 1Gig for a total of 1.5Gig _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

One down and two to go. Installed a 3.06 H-T(SL6PG) cpu today. Made a big performance difference. Waiting on 2 gigs of memory to come in. That should help too. Right now the system managed page file is 4602mb. A little high.
So far I've kept the up-grade cost to under $100.00. The graphics card could be a problem. Finding a low priced AGP 4x card is getting tricky. If the memory up-grade works as good as the cpu up-grade, I'll be fine. _________________ A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila. ~Mitch Ratcliffe |

Good on you, keeping the upgrade as cheap as possible
I might be wrong.. someone please correct me if i'm wrong, that most 8X AGP cards will run in a 4X slot, but only at 4X
The permformance will the same as a 4X, but the cost will be cheaper.. also free for a 128Mb card _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
