Ok, I love die containing memorabilia. I planned to bid on this item because I thought it was pretty cool. I figured $45 was a pretty beefy offer and would probably be an easy win. Why on earth did someone pay $172. Anyone have any ideas. This is more cash than an intel anniversary clock with a 4004 die in it fetches and that is about the coolest die containing piece of memorabilia I have ever seen.
Anyhow, heres the link:

I think you have a bigger collecting group in IBM stuff than Intel chips or memorabilia so there are a interest from two directions. As with buying keychains. You will often fight with a keychain collector. _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

I watch all of the IBM lucite auctions because at one time I was going to collect them but quickly realized that they typically sell way out of my price range. So this isnt that out of the ordinary. Maybe a little higher than normal but not much.
My guess is that if all you collect is IBM lucite then when one comes along, you better get it . Although I did grab a beatiful lucite keychain from the ukraine with a IBM 370/125 chip inside for 3 dollars. It is the only one that flew under the radar. |

Hi,
very expensive but nice and historically interesting. Now I know what's inside the chips of my IBM RIOS-1 (POWER-1) card!
IBM lucite memorabilia are cool... but expensive...
P.S.: sorry, I'm not the (lucky?) winner of the auction!
