6501`s I counted three:
2x DC3475, 1x DC5075.
I guess more than 40 C4040`s
in collections of forum members? _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

I dont keep track of the chips but at least the auctions that have been on eBay and both are noted in my ebay toplist + i have been in contact with Dan who provided images for chipdb.org of his 6501. Maybe there are more that have surfaced outside this little pond, but since im not in that field of collecting myself i do not know.
http://www.chipdb.org/index.php?template=toplist All auctions in the list from feb 2008 has images saved for reference.
Both found in top 5. (I did a exception for wepwawets chip with only one bid. Its a rare chip and should be documented, even though the rule normally say five bids to get on the list) _________________ My collection: http://www.cpucollection.se :::::: http://www.chipdb.org Photos of chips you never knew existed. Now over 6000 different chips in the database. |

Thomas, interestingly the C4004`s you tracked from 2008 and 2009
went for more than $500 each.
I tracked C4004`s from 2005 to 2007 and this
were the prices (all chips in good/very good
shape, old auctions up, descending newer)
$306 #5154386334
$255 #5178221080
$306 #5174104600
$340 #5174327626 (incl. manual)
$355 #5230940296
$400 #8747086019
$276 #8763169413
$347 #180215231646
$405 #180218376644
Including your prices I think there is a slightly
tendence for increasing prices for the C4004!
But maybe there are some factors like the
low dollar (which engages foreign people to bid high)
and an abscondence to substantive valuables
like collectibles with good chances for increasing value.... _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

In another thread I have tallied 18 C4040s in members' collections. I guess there will be a few more than that, as not everyone responded, so maybe 25-30? _________________ My former Intel collection:

$32,50 less than average
Presuming they will not continue to appear in
the same intervals a price around $800 looks
like not overpriced (considering the presumably at least
ten times more common - and way more famous -
standard C4004 has an average of $330). |
C4004 grey trace has a much higher average price than C4004 white. Don't mix that up;-)
btw, I also count three. And as Dan's one appeared on commodore.ca (they didn't know any sample before) these seem to be the only ones until today. But let's see what the near foture will bring up, lol |

lol yep the price of your 6501 compared with the last few overpriced
grey traced C4004-deals makes it look really underpriced!
However, no bargain IMO! My definition of a bargain would
be a cheap lot of ceramic chips for some bucks, then suddenly
a white 6501 in nice shape hops out
... or with some luck a white MOS 6503 at $12 for example!

Marvellous!
It would be awesome to know the actual
total remaining quantity of some ultrarare chips.
Imagine this would be the LAST TWO WHITE R6502
ON THE WHOLE PLANET! _________________ Ordem e Progresso |

... and in 100 or 200 years, when all old stuff has shown up and nothing more can be expected WE are not there to see who the winner was;-)

yah you`re right kosmo but the chances are not so bad.
More than 30 years ago the need for processors wasn`t
as strong as today so not many fabricated at all.
Then the point that they may have changed their
process after 1000 units for using plastic-packages
or purple ceramic.
And imagine how many may have been scrapped!
And most people (non-collectors) are throwing electronic
waste away, unlike coins for example! _________________ Ordem e Progresso |
