just got these and i was wondering what the difference between the TN80C188EB13 and the TN80C188EA13, as the EA13s don't appear in the database.

are they just a different stepping?

No, these are different chips. There are 80C188EA, EB & EC.
Difference is mainly onchip peripherals embedded.

EA was the first version after the XL

The EB adds some features like 2 serial ports and 10 chip selects.

The EC adds the EB features, as well as 4 DMA channels, a 32 bit watchdog timer a pair of interrupt controllers and an extra I/O port
