ok. lets start smth new. for eg. i have at the moment a p4 2.8ghz. i'm thinking of changing a little smth. i was going for 2CPU motherboards with 2 xeon 3.6ghz single core. i'm just wondering, will it be any diference between 2 xeon CPU 3.6=7.2ghz total with 1CPU of core 2 duo 2.6ghz=5.2 ghz or 1CPU of xeon quad 2ghz=8ghz.

waiting for your oppinion.

It depends- The dual-processor systems arent worth it currently- The Core i& architecture beats out Socket 771 dual-processor systems, with a single processor.

Your best bet, really, is a good Core 2 Duo system, maybe an E8400 processor, 2-4GB of RAM and a nice video card- Like that lovely Radeon 4770 that just came out.

But if you've got money to blow, give us a budget!

ok, lets say that i can get the 2CPU system for 150usd but i do not want to pay more that 500usd.

For $500 your absolute best system would be a mid-range Core 2 duo with that ATI 4770.

2CPU systems require expensive motherboards (which alone are usually $200+) expensive Xeon or Opteron processors, and expensive buffered memory.

thats why i saying. i did found the whole system with 2CPU motherboard with 2 xeon 3.6ghz (single core) fitted for 150usd. but there is smth that at the moment im not looking for a good video card, because you know, you can always upgrade that for smth good. thats why i open this subjet, about the cpu.

ok, tell me, in your oppinion, the best results of performance from these 3 options:
1. 2CPU single core 3.6 ghz = 7.2ghz total (800mhz, 2mb cache size each)
2. 1CPU Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz = 5.32ghz total (E7300 2.66Ghz/3Mb/1066Mhz)
3. 2CPU DUAL CORE XEON 2.0GHZ = 8GHZ total

P.S. you might know that almost all 2cpu motherboards can be fitted with a lot of ram (8gb to 192gb of ram) and you have a possability of expansion slots that not other boards can do so.

A single E7300 has more raw power than a dual xeon 3,6GHz that it's based on the P4 core.
You cannot judge a multi-processor by the sum of the frequencies.

so, you are saying that even if the e7300 is lower (all because of the new tech) but its doing more power that de p4 2CPU. am i right?

p.s. everything is soposed to be the with the same configuration, 2gb ram, 512mb video

he's right, new tech better performance...

you must never sum frequencies, core 2 duo eats alive p4

go for a p4 and never have regrets
