el_gecko, your market is prettier than mine. You have a nice view that is not under a bridge.
iguana, your market looks a little like mine - lots of junk everywhere, and lots a small vendors - however, it is also not under a bridge.
OK, here is one more Thunderbird ES. Unfortunately, the die is chipped. Including this one, I have 700, 800, and 900: |

Cool pics guys!! I sometimes forget the distance between us all but I am quickly reminded when I see these pics.
What a cool community we have here. Imagine how different all of our collections would be without this place! Three cheers for CPU World.
I was looking back at some of my Pm's to John and others when I first started collecting. Funny stuff. |

At the last under bridge sale, there were not any interesting chips. Instead I looked for a cheap socket 370 motherboard, to be used for the purpose of testing some of my P3 processors.
One seller had motherboard + CPU + heatsink combos tightly wrapped in several layers of anti-static foil, so it was hard to see inside. I chose one, and asked the seller if it was socket 370 or socket A. It sounded as if he said, "360" (slight difficulty to understand him), so I asked, "370?" to clarify. He said yes. I trust him, so I bought it, and waited to open the foil until I was home.
Oops - it is socket A (462), and has leaky capacitors. Maybe the seller actually said, "462"? I feel stupid because I did not open the foil to verify at the sale.
The motherboard POST, and displays Athlon 1100 processor on 100 FSB. Eh, I already have that one, hmm. I removed the heatsink and looked.
No writing and no rubber feet - maybe a Thunderbird engineering sample? There is some pencil writing on the ceramic package, like other K7 samples. In another motherboard, the processor boots into Windows, and CrystalCPUID reports original specification is 10.5 x 133 = 1400 MHz. CPU-Z reports it uses 1.85 V (!), whereas default for Athlon 1400 is 1.75 V.
So it may be Athlon 1400 ES. Do you agree? |

Could be an ES. What does it say on the die substrate?

It is hard to read - strange small font. Maybe:

4231E1761106
EDIT: I rescanned the die, and magnified. Photo attached below |

Last Saturday at my sidewalk sale under the bridge, one of the regular vendors was killed by a drive-by gunman. I was not present - it happened at 0300 - and I didn't know until today that he died. There is a local news report here:
http://cbs11tv.com/video/?id=43926@ktvt.dayport.com
The gunman has not been detained. Police call this "random violence". I wonder if it could be one of the people caught earlier this year for shoplifting, and now seeking "revenge".
After that, it seems trivial to announce that I found my first AMD slot A engineering sample at this sale. The picture is already posted here:

Very sad and senseless! I hope they find the killer.
It's a freakish coincidence that as I read this post, I have a TV program from the HISTORY channel, called "Gangland", on in the background.
It's listing the bad-ass violent crime and killings that West-side Chicago gangs did in the 1970's & 80's. |
