celeron 2.8 or p4 1.8

Ok i`m new to all this and i only have a 478 m/b so and also a choice of a celeron 2.8ghz or a p4 1.8ghz so which one would be better.

This depends a lot on the type of processor. The Pentium 4 is available in two variants: with 'Willamette' core and with 'Northwood' core. The latter is faster.

The Celeron 2.8 is available in two variants as well. 'Northwood' or 'Prescott' core. Again, the latter is faster.

If I remember correctly an AMD Duron 1600 is slightly faster (in overall performance) compared to a Pentium 4 1800 'Northwood' (with DDR memory) and a Celeron 2666 'Northwood' (DDR). This would say a Celeron 2800 is faster in any case but difference will be minimal in case it's a 'Northwood' CPU.

If you have both CPU's you can test it yourself using benchmarks Smile.
