I had an old 1968 Valiant (Chrysler) many years ago whose accelerator return spring snapped when I was driving across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Amazingly when these springs snap the accelerator defaults to full throttle (one of those advanced safety features). So I battled the car for 3 kms until I was across the bridge and worked out what had happened. Luckily I didn't take out any other cars on the way over....

Should I sue, as I don't recall them paying me any royalties?

My Renault Dauphine was stuck in second gear but for a happy reason. I had "tossed" a Majestic radio in the front seat and the lid of the radio was over the gear shifter while the legs stuck 5 inches out an open right door. It would have been a pity to have left all those blue "127" tubes on the curbside, and a rocker loudspeaker, to boot. The old beast gets 66 miles ~ 100 Km per gallon on gasoline (petrol) but the government, or anybody, wants me to get rid of it out of sheer jealousy. Nothing about paying me for it though. They`re in a bit of a funk partly because they`re too busy buying foreign cars (or US cars) that get around 6 miles per gallon. -or do you think it`s the crummy programming on television?

We in Spain have a 2000 EUR payment from governments and manufacturers as incentive for more than 10 year car when replacing for a low pollution one.

It will help to activate car industry and decrease pollution, I think.
