Thanks for your feedback
IMHO the big gold AJ87C196KL on the last picture is the most unusual chip from the whole lot.
When I received the chip the goldcap was fixed with adhesive tape. I removed the tape - and it turned out that the plate wasn't glued to the chip!
That's why I was able to gain access to the DIE wihout damaging the rare MCU
Here is my first try in DIE macro photography.
High resolution images:

Nice!
What method did you use for the die close-ups? |

I took this picture using a bellows with my DSLR camera.
Unfortunately I have only one camera, that's why I can't take a picture from my equipment.
The bellows looks like one on the picture in this Wikipedia article:

I have about 20 CPU dies to post, but I have to get close-up pics like yours first.
I have several CANON FT camera lenses and I tried the "reverse lens" trick but no luck.
I wish I knew which type of lens to use with my small digi camera... |

I'm afraid... you'd better say : "I wish I knew which type of digi cameras to use with my CANON FT camera lenses "
DSLR + long-focal-length lens is the best
DSLR+ normal-focal-length lens is OK
ultra-zoom non-DSLR camera is OK
small simple digi camera (w/o manual controls) - not so easy (or maybe impossible) to make a macro using "reverse lens" method.
As for CANON FT camera lenses - wide-angle ones (minimum focal length ) are the best to reverse. _________________ My Want List: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22729

Thanks.
I use an Olympus FE-130 Digital camera w. AF Zoom 6.3-18.9mm lens (1:3.1-5.9)
I have a wide angle CANON lens that I'll have to dig out and try. _________________ My collection list (growing) http://johnorun.x86-guide.com/en/collection.html |

Nice set of 87C186 samples! By the way, these were added to the S-spec database.
