I'm looking to setup a new home-theater PC, which has a Blu-Ray player in it (running Vista Home Premium on an ATI Radeon 4650 video card), and am down to choice of CPU that fits in the budget for it.

I have it down to two roughly the same price, but with totally different specs. They are:

Pentium D940:
clock - 3.2GHz
bus - 800MHz
cache - 4MB

Core 2 Duo e6320:
clock - 1.86GHz
bus - 1066MHz
cache - 4MB

One has a much higher clock speed, but slower bus. The other has a much higher bus, but slower clock. The caches are the same between them.

Which of these would give the better performance for the system specs I listed up above?

Really? Even with that large of a difference in clock speed?

OK, thanks for the tips. I appreciate the help.

Yes Core Duo have a better IPC (instructions per clock) than P4, so it's able to run programs faster even if it has a lower speed.
