Dell Dimension 5000 Processor upgrade

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Dimension 5000, it has a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 640 (socket 775) processor already installed. However i am looking to upgrade this even further, i am wanting to get the fastest processor for the motherboard. To my knowledge i think its a intel 915G chipset on the motherboard.

I originally wanted to go for a 3.8 GHz which i think is the P4 670 or 672 processor, would this run in my computer? If not which is the fastest processor that i could run in my computer. Service tag is available if this is needed.

I see many people have viewed this post but have not replied.

Would just like to say that YES this does work, i took a gamble and bought the Pentium 4 670 3.8 GHz, this is compatable with the intel 915G express chipset.

My Dell Dimension 5000 now has:

Pentium 4 670 3.8GHz Processor
4GB of Corsair DDRII SD-RAM
2x 1000GB 7200 RPM SATA HDD
Pinnacle 3010iX PCTV Dual Hybrid Pro TV Tuner
Gigabyte GeForce 9400GT 1GB ATX HDMI Graphics Card
NEC DVD+-RW

~I have the same situation. I have upgraded already my RAM but looking now of upgrading the GPU. did you change the PSU or did the 305watt Dell managed the power demands?

One more thing, your graphics requires PCI 2.0, THe chipset only has PCI x16, were you able to maximise the full potential of the graphics?

I have a nephew that has a dell dimension 5000 too.
He has a Ati HD3850 gpu in it (still with the 305 watt psu), and it works, so a 9400GT must work with the standard psu.
