What do you guys think about keeping a record of masked Ebay IDs, Over the last couple of months I have began tracking and keeping a list of masked Ebay IDs and the full names of the people, It comes in handy to me for bidding on stuff and knowing who I am bidding against, or who I dont want to bid against.

I think alot of times when someone is bidding on a lot with multiple chips it could help to keep the costs down if you pm a person and ask before the auction ends if they will split the chips up insted of bidding against them and driving the prices up. What do you guys think about this?

I suspect some will not want to do it , but if the majority does I will post up all the ones I have so far and continue to add to the list as I decode the IDs. We could even make it a running sticky if thats warrented.

If anyone else has a list running I would be more than happy to add them as well. Very Happy

Is the masking static? I think i have seen different ones for the same username, but i can be wrong.

As far as I can tell its static. Now weather they go and mix them up every 6 months or somthing I am not positive because I havent been tracking them for that long of a time period yet.

Pretty pointless as soon there will be no way of knowing the identity of any bidders or buyers. All we have in the UK at the moment is bidder1, bidder2 etc.. and you can see their feedback number, I guess that is to help spot shill bidding. ebay UK did away with the **** masking.

It also doesnt take long anyways from the time a chip is purchased to the time it appears in a collection. Some collectors take ages to update, others dont. So thats another way of finding out who won the chip you bid on and lost.

Also, most people I know use sniping software, so no risk of a bidding war, I just set my price and leave it. I win about 50% of the stuff I bid on, and its not just chips, I buy all sorts of stuff on ebay. How are you going to know those people are interested?

Edit: Also, I think this is a short sighted policy on ebay UK as I used to find lots of interesting sellers by looking at the feedback of people who bid on the same things I did.

Exactly, JAC. I still do find cool items by looking at seller feedbacks. I hope EbayUSA doesn't screw us as well Evil or Very Mad
