I'm interested in this question. I'd like to know how big this market is so far, you can select one in the list:)
Thank you!
Edit: I made this a poll for you ->Moderator _________________ Webmaster of China Collector's Site

There is no "less than one hundred" choice I'd say around one hundred.

I would have to disagree.
There may be less then 100 that we see online alot, but I am sure there are alot of older engineers who are passively collecting CPUs. _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

I would have to say more than 100 but less than 200. My guess is even stamp collecting took a couple of decades to catch on and chips are more interesting than stamps

there are at minimum 10 serious collectors in germany that are "visible" on ebay, forums and somewhere else.
With serious I mean people that really spend time, space and money for their hobby.
But semi-professional collectors you will find a minimum of 100 in germany.
Worldwide there's a big number.
Don't forget there are people NOT interested in Intel chips but only Motorola or TI (eg. I know a guy that is only focused on a special range of TI chips).
My guess is 500 collecting owners of a C4004 worldwide and 500 more that are still searching (or dreaming of it;-). |

If there are around 30 collectors in most major countries ( A somewhat fairly rounded number ), it will all add up to about 1000 chipmonkies and up. In Europe there are AT LEAST 200 collectors, and in china alone, the number of collectors could easily surpass that. Just like someone just said, just because the collectors don't participate in forums and on ebay, it doesn't mean they don't exist. With plenty of countries to spare I can comfortably say there are 1000 collectors or so worldwide.
Look at this http://www.ibiblio.org/lunarbin/worldpop/index.html
It's a world population clock. I mean seriously, one of those people HAS t o become a collector sooner or later Pretty scarey right? |
