BTW I pay around £450 (fully comprehensive insurance) for a 2.2l Ford Mondeo Titanium X Sport... but I don't know how much my 'penalty points' affects this.
Any other country have penalty points for speeding offence etc?? In UK, you have to pay £60 fine and get 3 'points' on your license if you break a speed limit (if you get caught..) and then you have to tell your insurer. I don't know if this really increases how much you pay. Maybe only a few £? Anyway... I'm not a bad driver; never had an accident in 8 years of driving. Speed cameras are just a source of income for the government. |

yah we have points here too, but very few speed cameras.
Speed cameras are rubbish anyways, solely designed to make $$ (just like red light cams here) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

Two years ago I read an official paper form the state of California.
Bottom line: speeding camera augmented the number of accidents at crossings.
If a state is saying that the method without any prior aducation of the drivers is useless, others should use 5 years data to make the right choice. So they wanted to remove many and use other things, like showing your speed ot maybe putting mechanized figures of police waving to slow down (like in Japan) or even make roudabouts instead of traffic lights.
In Italy in many cases it works like this:
the local gov. decides to place cameras and other "I take a snapshot of your speeding" devices. they can't afford to buy the equipment, they let some company place them and get up to 80% of the money.
Where is the educational point here? None, it's just a cash-in machine.
And many were illegal and had the traffic light go red too fast, so as you go by with orange light you get caught anyway. People brake and someone from behind gets his way in your rear...
In Italy there have been lots of scandals with the local police tweaking the machines and getting a bribe form companies to use thei machines.
Plus before entering in an area with such machines you need to put a signal higly visible to inform drivers that there on they can be caught for speeding.
We have 20 points on our driving license, and different amounts if you go over the limit 10-20-40 km/h.
Politicians here are really behind on road security. A few years ago there was nothing at all...
Sorry for long rantish post. |

Penalty points here in British Columbia. Speeding $135( 3 points).
20kmh over the speed $185(4 points).
Here everyone has to buy the basic coverage from the government insurance company but can buy the rest from private companies.
If you have 6 or more points you also pay another fine before you can even renew your insurance. This also goes into the government insurance coffers. 6 points is around $300 so 2 speeding tickets in one year would be around $570. |
