Hello!

I have some ceramic CPUs here where the heatsinks were glued onto the cpu (of course no boxed CPUs Wink). Is it possible to remove those heatsinks? How runs this best without damaging the cpu?

Best regards,
Xaar.

Compress the heatsink in a bench vice. It works every time. Look for my posts in thread from years ago.

Yep. Works with any heatsink. The low profile heatsinks can be a bit of a bitch, but they all come off in the end. I remember also removing a couple of those glued on pentium gold top heatsinks... removed the logo, but they were all common types etc.

Something else I found recently that has worked really well on the difficult gummy 486 and Socket 4 ceramic Pentium.

Run extremely hot water over the top and then quickly rub with a terricloth or paper towel. I did this 3 times and it turned a gummy looking SX842 into a beautiful chip. I had tried all kinds of chemicals that didnt work.

Has anyone tried good old liquid laundry detergent or "Mr. Clean" cleaner?
Both dissolve grease and oil. Wink

I have an overwhelming urge to post the UZI pic again, surely it will take the heatsink off.
