I know how we all hate the use of online pics for eBay listings Crying or Very sad

and I know Genna is in the process of adding tags to all his pics to make them more obvious when his pics are used Very Happy

Well today.. i found that some are getting around this by playing with Genna's pics Crying or Very sad

Just thought to make forum members aware.. if they were already not Surprised

Here is just an example I made of what some sellers are doing Surprised
Pic 1 as on CPU-World
Pic 2 as on eBay listing

Sometimes when I ask a question to the seller I always point he might give credits to the site he took it from.

Nobody ever does that.

And I've seen people lazy enough to paste a link pointing here.
Which has positive aspects... in a way.

I've seen pics stolen from here and cpuswe's db.

It's a wonderful world Smile

Simply use a watermark. Hopefully that way lazy people will actually take a picture of their item rather than try to remove the watermark.

But... watermark looks ugly when you are using it for your site's chip pictures Sad

I'm sure there are some anti-linking scripts out there that 'plain joes' won't be able to work around.

Watermark doesn't have to be large. I'm using script with watermark but in 2 seconds I can remove it from all pictures Smile

It is sad that image thieves know to not link directly to the source image. Oh so much fun was to be had with linked images on ebay listings, and after there is a bid the item description can not be edited, so the link cannot be removed. How we laughed when the source image was changed to hardcore fetish pr0n.

Watermarking = useless
Stupid anti-linking scripts = worse than useless

Advice.. do not get irritated by it. .. or complain to eBay copyright department.

I like JAC's solution...let's find one then change the link as he said...genius!

Complaining to the seller usually worked for me. I had only one seller who ignored my e-mails, and I'm going to complain to eBay later this week (more info - http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/programs-vero-ov.html). I usually ignore sellers who post my pictures, even modified ones, only once. It's not worth it.

Typical on eBay... they must have a web-page shuffling department Laughing

Would you like to guess whose Athlon 64 X2 has appeared on ebay today? Rolling Eyes

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Athlon-64-X2-3800-SOCKET-939-CPU_W0QQitemZ270498203836QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item3efaf308bc

The pattern of dust looks verrrrry similar to mine. Oh - also the serial numbers are the same.

At least when it sells, I will learn what it is worth.
