the code is correct , just like borris's

i have only one K7-Engineering Sample C1 550MHz 03499900646
so probably 49. week 1999 |
maybe they are in different order for ES ? _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

was looking at my 600 ES and I realised that this was an early stepping than other ES around
Checking around most seem to be Rev7 C1 or C2 stepping, while mine is Rev6 C0 stepping
Going by the way the date code on early ES is WWYY not YYWW I would take the date of this unit to be Week 01 1999
all my other K7 slots as early as week 25 1999 have a copyright of 1999
this ES has a copyright of 1998
On a side note it would appear that Genna's ES was made week 10 1999

I checked the picture online and it is the other sticker for production date
looks like 219924000577 which would make it
Plant >> USA
Year >> 1999
Week >> 24
AMD K7 Slot Plant code
05 >> ??
21 >> USA
23 >> USA
71 >> Singapore _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

from those markings I would take production date as week 12 2000.
you can test it to check, but I presume this will be a Thunderbird core as they weren't released until June 2000
CPUid would be 642 (A4) or 644 (A9).. both steppings were released at same time
unlikely to be a Pluto as A1 stepping was released Jan 2000 & A2 stepping March 2000 _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

seeing I have a 550 up for sale at the moment.. thought I would stir the pot on 7th Generation marked processors
The ones I have are
500 >> week 27
550 >> week 25 & 31
600 >> week 27
It has been put forward they these are Qualification samples.. maybe Marketing samples
but my thoughts on this are.. is that AMD decided to use a marketing name other than the normal K5, K6, K7 format, but no one had any brilliant suggestions till after they were in production
Looking through trademark info.. The wording AMD Athlon was not put forward until May 20th 1999 and AMD Athlon Processor was not put forward until May 27th 1999 and filed on June 23rd.. the official day of their release
http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.jsp >> trademark search >> Basic Word mark search
search for athlon
reg numbers
2717684
2764567
2719595
on a side note.. thought it was funny that AMD had let AMD Athlon Processor lapse, but they have kept AMD K6 active
Edit >> here is an excerpt from AMD press release
SUNNYVALE, CA--June 23, 1999-- AMD today announced that it has commenced shipments of its new seventh-generation microprocessor, the AMD Athlon™ processor, to computer manufacturers. Formerly code-named the AMD-K7 processor, the AMD Athlon processor is initially available in speed grades of 600, 550, and 500 MHz.
"For the first time in the history of the computer industry, AMD leads the competition in delivering an entirely new generation of processors that offers not just higher clock speeds, but higher performance and processing capabilities clock-for-clock based on a more advanced architectural design," said W.J. Sanders III, chairman and chief executive officer of AMD. "This announcement is truly a watershed for AMD and the entire industry because it heralds new choices based on superior processor technology for system platforms in the enterprise space."
About the AMD Athlon™ Processor Family Name
The AMD Athlon processor is a true seventh-generation processor in terms of its architectural capabilities and delivered performance. In choosing the product name, AMD wanted to emphasize that the new product represents a champion of competition and delivers capabilities and performance significantly better than the existing AMD-K6® processor family. _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
