I often bid on ebay auctions for forum members, this is a service that AVICC provides.
Sometimes I have multiple members ask me to bid on the same item with varying max's
I have 2 options for doing so:
A: Bid for whoever sends me the highest max via PM (this often results in the item going for a low price, since no proxy bidding occurs)
B: Use a second ebay account to bid the item up to the second highest persons max, then outbid that for the forum member who sent me the highest max (this results in a higher end price, but more 'normal' looking auction) _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!

both have their pros n cons
Option A - Pros
- possibly keeps prices down on hard to find chips
Option A - Cons
- may lead to persons giving an over-inflated high price, knowing that you are only going to bid once
- if the above happened.. and another US bidder pushed the price above their real maximum.. u mite be left hold the bag
Option B - Pros
- maintains a balanced outcome to the auction for all buyers
- realistic maximums would be set
Option B - Cons
- price inflation on hard to get chips
Option C What about when you want to bid on the chips yourself _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Dont bid at all for them and leave all the chips to me for a cheap price ha ha ha ha ha
Just kidding, probly just bid with the highest max that you have gotten from the members. in that way no one pays more than they absolutly need to for a chip. If you use the two accounts its kind of like shill bidding to me, altho I know youre not just driving up the price for the sake of doing so. Its really a tough call. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." A.E. |

I see your dilemma, bid the highest one only.
The new problem is to tell the other user that his bid has been "overtaken"?
This would make you an auction site by yourself, not advisable. |

I never ask you to bid for me as I know you might be my competiter.
When I see something I am interested, I think you might be interested as well, so I dont think it is preferable to ask you to bid for me. _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

OK.
Let iguana ask you to bid on nice chip at $20max
And let his friend malyshh ask you to bid on the same chip at $25
Starting price was $5
There was no any other e-bay bidders
imho it's really fair malyshh will get it for $5 but not for $21 (except the seller is our forum member )
My vote for A,
Bid the highest one only and no any comments till auction ended. _________________ My Want List: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22729

I prefer A assume forum members' offer is real (ie. he's willing to pay what he set, not just for bidding).
And most important, we all here for cpu collecting, not money earning. |

Yeah I think we would all be ok with A, as if it going to a forum member then whoever was prepared to pay the most would win anyway and why should we push the price up. I think we all win with A _________________ My former Intel collection:

yup and A really does save ya'll lots of money
for example a C4040 auction I recently won for a member
I had bids of $500, $600, and $1200
so I ended up getting it for $399 saving the winner over $200 _________________ New for 2025! The CPU Shack has a co-processor!
