I put a athlon mobile cpu 1200MHZ in my desktop and only runs at 500MHZ. The cpu test software says it is running at 5.0 clock ratio. but when I change it to 12.0 the computer freezed right away. any one can help my out. I don't want to buy a 1200MHZ cpu works at only 500MHZ.

everything looks fine there
since the cpu is mobile, it changes its clock from 500mhz - 1200mhz (and probably a few steps in between id imagine) depending on system load
see the second shot where it says the maximum is 1200mhz?
it knows what it should run at, but since its not needed its running at 500
thats my guess though.
from what ive read, the bios is set at 5x, and the chip itself increases its multiplier internally
so, by setting the BIOS to 12x, you're in effect telling it to run at 19x (or 144x, but i think 19x makes more sense ) so its not liking that
basically its working fine. i think! feel free to disagree |
