Hi. So I have a Dell Dimension B110 CPU. It has a Intel Celeron D 2.38GHZ chip in it. I did some research (guess not enough or I misread something) and put a P4 3.0 GHZ chip in it. It didn't work. The CPU turned on, but thats it. Nothing to the screen or the keyboard or mouse. The fans and eveyrhting are on, but it did nothing else. So I put my Celeron D back in and now my CPU doesn't work! Did i fry something? Could this have damaged my MoBo? Both chips were working perfectly fine. What can I do?

Also, I have a MPC computer sitting around. It has no hard drive. Could I put my old HD in it and use it like that? Or is that a big no-no? They both ran Windows XP SP3 on them. I'm stuck and don't know what to do!

Jose

Try unplugging the psu for a while, and try again with the old cpu (celeron d).
IF still no go, unplugg everything and put them back one at a time, maybe you had some static current damage.

It could be any number of things. Mass produced PC's are made with low grade components. The most common fault I see is memory that no longer works.

Also try clearning the CMOS, usually that involves moving a jumper for a few seconds. Do some web searching for your brand/mobo etc.. you might find more info.

Check if you have not damaged pin in CPU (if Socket 478) or pin in socket (LGA775).

Pins are fine. Just swapped them in a friends CPU (who has the same ones) and they worked fine. Damn it all. Some one told me that I was supposed to update the Bios before I swapped the chips. Could this have been the problem?
