I upgraded from an intel e4500 (2.2ghz) C2D to an E7500 (2.93ghz) C2D. Windows, CPU-Z, CoreTemp, etc. recognise the CPU as this model, but report the clock frequency to be 1596mhz.

At first I thought this to be Intel SpeedStep, but I've been monitoring the clock speed and haven't noticed any changes (apart from a mhz here and there) even in intensive tasks (gaming, archiving, etc.)

Any idea if this is a faulty unit, or something else? I'm not experienced with this sort of thing, but I'm not a n00b either Cool

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Im no expert, but i recently installed a 7500 also in my HTPC and got the same problem. The problem was that the multiplier was set at 6x in Bios. Which seems to be the case here.

Try put it at 11x.

Thanks for your reply! Yep, you're right - multiplier is set at 6x. Except my Bios doesn't allow this to be configured, but I'm sure there's some software that can do this.

Thanks for your help!
