For all those ppl that thought they didnt need to do homework anymore, here is an exercise for you Laughing

I have 2 SX957s here, one from Malay, the other from USA

which one is fake... or are both real... or are both fake Shocked

I picked one from each plant, as both plants have different text styles.. just to make a little more of a challenge Laughing

I dont claim to know much , but I would say the MAlay is the fake one, I see what would appear to be sanding marks across the cap on it. Altho the US one looks a bit dodgy along the heatsink too, unless its residue from the adhiesive or somthing.

Smile like Chiefish, I am not very sure that I know much about that... but left chip, Malay, should have bigger spaces between "INTEL", "M" and "C" at the bottom side.

Right chip, somehow, looks good at the bottom but suspicious from the top side... (to good looking heat-spreader and printing on them regarding this circle around...)

I don't know but I have some feeling that both chips are fake Smile

Yes its the residue of that brown heat-sink paste (but im a lazy seller on the Bay and will say anything to sell my chip Wink)

I will give ppl a day or 2 to decide for themselves.. then let everyone know

Very Happy

His order is correct

Malay matches malay (L + Malay) and USA matches USA (C + A4)

There are two things which make me think that the malay is fake:
1. Like Chiefish I wondered why the bottom seems to be polished with some sand. Looks different to all gold bottoms I have ever seen on "Goldcap" Pentium processors.
2. It looks like there is a little step on the border between the gold cap and the ceramic part. Neon's other SX957 has the same little step. US' SX957 seems to be free of that.

Best regards, Xaar.

I'd say the left is fake and the right is genuine.

Spot on mate Very Happy

Yes the Malay is a fake
The ceramic has been ground down & remarked. The die cap was sanded & remarked. The malay was originally a gold top 75

The USA SX957 is real

I believe both are genuine because the front and back look normal.

I suspect the difference between them because of difference production plant.

I have the similar one in my collection. If your is fake, then mine would probably the fake too. (bought it many years ago but no time to test it)
