How to compare CPUs?

Can anyone explain or point me to resources (books, websites, etc.) that can help me better understand how to compare/contrast cpus?

You want to compare cpu's in what way? Performance? Heat dissipation? Number of transistors?

I guess that the answer is in the numbers fork, E6400 is better than c2d 5600? Is amd 5600+ the same?
I got it now for the joke... guess he was asking for the famous bang for the buck comparison.

Or maybe he wants to know how many cpu collectors it would take to find out the question is just spam?
