Hello, I have a Giga-byte motherboard which does support the P3 1000/256/133 skt 370 processor. However, i have one of the SL5 spec which does allow my system to boot at all. My current SL4 800EB/256/133 isn't a problem. I'm curious what the problem is. I see that the 1Ghhz processor's can have an SL4 or SL5 spec.
Could anyone advise?

Is your bios actually supporting the processor? Sometimes the manual says the board supports the processor but in fact it's planned for a later release. Try to check bios dates, gigabyte it's friendly on cpu compatibility lists.

What's your board name?

Cheers for your concern.
The Board name is Giga-byte 6vxc7-4xp.
I think the SL5DR i have could be blown. I have my eyes on a SL4C8 1000/256/133 on ebay. If i buy thou, i can't return it, so i need to be sure on the right spec. What do you think?

The trial processor is SL5DR, but upon reflection i think it could be blown?

There is a SL4C8 with the same spec on ebay, the seller won't allow a return if it's spec isn't suitable thou.

SL5DR cann't be Coppermine-1000.
Look here...

I think that you inserted coppermine with IHS (FC-PGA2 package), which doesn't work in non-Tualatin MoBos Sad Am I right?

It doesn't support Tualatin cpus.

Check in the site for the sspec not to buy the wrong processor, Root is absolutely right.
