Hello again, my daughter was just given a comp that has an AMD 2400+ running at 2.0 Ghz and I have an AMD 2500+ that runs at 1.83 Ghz (default speeds) sitting in a closet from when I upgraded my machine. Is there any performance advantage to replacing the 2400 with the 2500 seeing as how the 2400 runs at a faster speed?

If so, could you please explain why? I do know that the 2400 has a higher multiplier but I really don't understand how that effects performance output.

Thanks

The 2500+ has a higher rating because it has more L2 cache memory than the 2400+, and it runs on a faster system bus, which overcomes its 170 MHz frequency deficit.

Note that the motherboard must support 166 MHz system bus and 333 DDR memory (PC2700) in order to get the benefit of a performance boost. Otherwise, it isn't worth changing the processor.
