Been trying to work the suffix on this 68HC05 MCU produced in the first half of 1992, but have been unable to decipher
I have found out the 68HC05L series incorporated circuitry to drive LCD displays
There is reference to the 68HC05L series in a Motorola application note dated 1991 (printed 1993), but earliest datasheet I can find is from 1994
Normal part numbering appears to include a processor speed
Thou this is marked as a sample, I am guessing it is a customer sample as the part number starts with MC, not XC or PC
So trying to work out what the LB at the end would signify _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

I have databook from 1988. It has a bunch of MC68HC05 variations, including only one with "L" suffix, MC68HC05L5. Unfortunately, I have only volume 1 of the book, and the L5 datasheet is in the book 2
The last one or two letters in the part number are package name. So, it's either MV68HC05LL in package "B", or MC68HC05L in package "LB".

looking at other part numbers in this family.. most have this sort of format for part number
MC68HC05L5CFN, MC68HC05LJ5P (P dip) , MC68HC05LM1FT.......
was thinking low power but i found 68HLC05L is low power
68HC05LJ5 is a enhanced 68HC05L5 so guessing 2nd L is some enhancement & B for package
but no speed identifier
guessing it was for some particular system and wasn't released as a standard part
so unlikely to find any real info _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:
