OK, Now this is really nice -

FROM 1982 !!!!!!

It's a national Geographic edition entitled "The Chip" focussing on the microprocessor. I have had a quick scan through it and I am really impressed with the detail.

As ever National Geographic has presented the story of the microchip with amazing pictures and detailed description.

Some interesting articles included a Sherrif, who appeared to have seized a bin liner full of Eproms and old chips.

Have a browse through the pics.. asks questions - whatever !! This is really smart!

ALSO - BONUS - An extra small book, computers at work

Amazing! I never knew that National Geographic did technology issues like that. That's one more thing to keep an eye out for in the junk shops and doctors surgeries (I bet they don't have any!)

QUOTE: From the book RE the Sherrifs chips:

Compute-age booty, $50,000
worth of silicon semiconductors, o
chips, were recovered from
thieves bent on selling the meaher
gold built into these tiny devices
that have revolutionized
electronics.
Industrial heists reaped
perhaps 20 million dollars last year
from firms in California's Silicon
Valley, nickname for the high-tech
empire reigning in the Santa
Clara Valley south of San
Francisco. Thriving in a heady
swirl of engineering genius and
entrepreneurial gambles, Silicon
Valley now faces problems sired by
wildfire success-and tough
competition from Japan.
