A user uploaded this chip yesterday which is missing in the database. Since its in my opinion a common chip in a common collecting category i get suspicious. Why is this missing and why havenīt i come across this before? Either its rare or fake. I can not find the model in debs lists at ukcpu.net, and Genna does not list it.

Doesīnt it look handpainted in the middle? Both the 5k86-P90ABR and the SSA/5-90ABR part.

Look at that! How does the print on your piece compare to the one i posted? How does it compare to a ABQ if you have one?

Debs, our almighty cpuid guru, is there a way to test this? Have you heard about this chip?

Sadly there is no way through simple testing to know if the markings are original. Software testing will not tell whether it was originally rated with a maximum operating temperature of 60C ("Q") or 70 ("R").

I agree with the opinion that the 90ABR are fake, as (among other discrepancies) the "9" in "90ABR" is the wrong shape compared to the 9 on the line above it. On other 90MHz K5 I have checked the 9 is the same shape on both lines (I have not checked many though, as I only checked those I have and not what is on other people's sites for now...).

Most of the markings look genuine, so there is nothing else to indicate that anything other than the part number has been changed, if indeed it is a fake Smile Personally I would only say for definite that this is a fake if I had it on my desk to inspect (then, I could check, among other things, whether the text really is misaligned, or if it is just distorted by the camera shots), although from what I say I do think it to be fake...

the print of my 90ABR and 90ABQ looks similiar
i dont think they are fake
besides,i have heard that the weakest point of K5 (5k) is that they are very difficult to overclock...

Pictured from above, yours does look right. The one posted to the library, on the other hand, does look fake to me, as some characters (most noticeable to me is the "9"s, which are a little too different from each other) just don't look as professionally created as on other K5.
