My notebook currently uses a 2 Ghz Pentium P4 Mobile with a 400Mhz FSB and a 478 pin package. Some Centrino Processors come in a 478 pin package, also have a 400 Mhz FSB offering with, I believe, better power management and a 2MB on chip cache instead of a 512KB on chip cache.

Can these 400 Mhz FSB Centrino processors be substituted for the 400 Mhz FSB P4 Mobile CPUs with less cache?

Intel documentation says Pentium Ms are produced in 478-pin and 479-ball packages.
