That board is pretty overkill for that P4. It should work. The CPU isn't directly on the support list, however the board should support it since the G41 chipset supports P4, the 800MHz bus is supported, other P4's are on the list, and its an LGA775 board.
Depending on how much you are paying for that board it could be a waste of money to buy for that CPU. The board supports Core 2 Duo and Quad CPUs which are much much faster than that P4 you have. Also that board uses DDR3 memory. The old P4 motherboard you have probably has DDR2 memory. Buying more memory + that board just to use an old P4 531 is probably a waste. You can get old Intel 915/945 chipset LGA775 boards on ebay for around $20 that will work just fine. You could aslo pick up a Core 2 Duo CPU to go with that board, but then you are basically replacing most of the computer. |

Thanks for the quick reply I'll search for a cheaper board when I get home. I got an A-bit SG-80 at home that I didn't even bother testing since it wasn't on the compatibility list... Although that one might not be powerful enough.
