I have a very early Intel development system (SIM8-01) that I am trying to research. The chips with date codes range from June 1971 to April 1972 on the SIM8-01 board and from Nov. 1971 to Aug. 1972 on the MP7-03 Prom Burner board. However, the Intel chips don't have date codes (or perhaps I just don't know how to decipher them). Is there a way to figure out production dates? Here is a photo of some examples:
I think this is a very early system and when I searched for a plain 8008 CPU like the one on this board, I came up empty. Primarily found C8808, 8008-1, etc. Any insight or info about these chips and when Intel issued them would be appreciated.
If you would like to see a few photos of this rather unique micro, here are a couple:

Intel took a while to start marking date codes on chips.. and these are prior to that period
this thread will give you an idea when Intel started to mark chips, but it still took them a few years to get consistent

nice 1702
if you have access to a microscope with a camera I would love a picture of the die
bet you wish you held on to those apple 1 boards for a bit longer now
what type of 6502 is on the SYM-1 ? _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world:

Neon,
Thanks for the reply and the link. Sorry, but I do not have a microscope with a camera.
Yes, I wished that I had the Apple 1 back that sold on Christie's for $213,000. I sold it several years ago for $25,000 to a collector in California. He sold it on eBay a few years ago for $50,000 and then the collector in Italy bought it on Christies. However, I did just did get back the Apple 1 that I originally traded for the Christie's Apple 1, so I do have one hanging on the wall again!
