I have an emachine with amd athlon IIx2 260u processor 1.8 ghz

While raiding in wow its bottleneckiing on me, i want to upgrade the processor because i am limited on funds so I cant afford new comp right now. I opened up the box and it is an am2 chip. I am just looking for a little more performance until i can upgrade later. I was looking at:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 1MB Socket AM2 Dual Core CPU ADA5000IAA5CZ

Can i just plug this in and play or is there more to it than that. Also when u buy a processor do u have to get anything else with it.

right now i have the amd processor 4 gigs memory, 800 watt power supply, nvidia gtx 560 ti superclocked. I thought the problem was the graphic card so i bought that. When i am raiding 25 mans I am dropping down to 5-10 fps with this graphic card on good settings. Any help is greatly appreciated. I dont know a whole lot about computers so i am trying to learn on the fly. thank you...

I have a budget of about 100$ for the new processor.

Athlon II X2 260u is a socket AM3 processor. I would recommend to stick to the same socket, same or close core stepping, and to CPUs with not much higher TDP. If you have native socket AM3 board then it won't support socket AM2/AM2+ CPUs. Run CPU-Z and see whether you have C2 or C3 core revision. If you have C2 revision then upgrade to C3 (processors with "GM" suffix) is not guaranteed. Finally, your 260u has 25 Watt TDP, therefore your fan/heatsink may not be able to handle Athlon IIs and Phenom IIs with much higher TDP. To be safe, I would go with 45W dual-, triple- or quad-core Athlon II, although there is a chance than 65Watt Athlon IIs and Phenom IIs will also work. The fastest dual-core Athlon IIs with 45W TDP are 250e and 255e. It will be very difficult to find them, though. There is 2.9 GHz 245e on eBay right now for $40.

When I pulled the fan off the processor right next to it in a white color socket looking thing it said am2, but like I said I know nothing about computers and will look again. Is there a way for u to link me the processor ur talking about. I can buy a new fan and what ever I need to make it work. Thank u very much for posting. Also is there anything I can do without taking it apart to see what chip I have? Like a command to type or something? I'm good with sticking with a duel core that is stronger than what I have, and would prefer to be able to put it in and play.
