Can somebody explain the purpose of the tiny die next to the main one on some of the EPROMS. Even stranger is that some 2708's have this and some don't.

The only thing I have noticed about it is that the ones that have that little cube in them dont have external ground straps. Even the 2716 has a cube in it without an external strap. But I dont know if thats what it is for sure or not, maybe some kind of internal grounding thru the leg.

all have a grounding wire, but they must of decided bonding to a piece of etched die was better than direct to die bonding surface

on a side note Jack... please do not post single threads for each picture next time
